Keyboard layout changer for OpenRecovery 1.14 / GOT 1.02

A simple modification for the OpenRecovery 1.14 and G.O.T.'s OpenRecovery 1.02 that allows to change the HW keyboard layout (QWERTY/QWERTZ/AZERTY) using a menu in the OpenRecovery GUI.
UPDATE: it's included in G.O.T.'s OpenRecovery since 1.03 version.

Hardware keyboard auto suggestion

Hi,
I just installed the CM7 RC13 Mod to my german Milestone. After changing the keyboard layout in the settings menu everything works fine.
But with the original software from Motorola I had this auto suggestion like in the software keyboard also with the hw keyboard.

Is there any way to get the auto suggestion back for the hw keyboard?

Problem with CM7.1RC10

Yesterday I tried to change the standard QWERTY layout to German QWERTZ
with the OR tool. There seems to be a problem with CM7.1RC10 because now
the keyboard is completely disabled. I tried different layouts in the tool but
the result is always the same: CM refuses to use the hardware keyboard
instead of the software keyboard.

Is there a way to re-enable the hardware keyboard?

It's not a problem of CM7.1

It's not a problem of CM7.1 but problem of the keyboard layout change scripts used in old GOT OpenRecovery.
It has been fixed e.g. in Androidiani OR.
Anyway, you should not be changing the keyboard layout via OR, there is a menu for it in CyanogenMod settings>Input.
To fix it, reapply the CM update zip.

Thanks for the fast and helpful reply!

I am new to Android - the article here led me to change the keyboard
layout with OR...

I just re-applied CM7.1 (this time RC11) with OR and everything is fine now.
Even the volume/camera keys work again.

Keyboard layout change in Froyo 2.2

I noticed this seems to only change the keyboard layout for when you're in OpenRecovery. Is it possible to change it permanantly for when you boot into Froyo? Can I simiply run the script using Gscripts while in the Android OS?

OR

The script published here changes the files in system. But Scrilax is using it in OR only for the recovery console keyboard.
But when you copy the files published here to OpenRecovery folders, you will find the script you need in the Run Script menu.

Does not work for me

Hi,

I have an issue here. I have install MotoFrenzy (rom 2.2) on my milestone. My HW Keyboard is AZERTY, but when I press A I obtain Q ...

So I switch layout in GOT OpenRecovery thanks to your Mod ... but it doesn't work ...

Any idea ?

MotoFrenzy difference

On Milestone, the /system/usr/keychars/sholes-keypad.kcm.bin is not a file, but only a simlink to sholesp2a-keypad.kcm.bin, which is the actual keychar file. The keyboard layout change script for OpenRecovery replaces the sholesp2a-keypad.kcm.bin.
On Droid, the actual keychar file is the sholes-keypad.kcm.bin.
Unfortunately, Dext3r left it in MotoFrenzy the Droid way, therefore the OR script does not work there.
If you edit the OpenRecovery/bin/change_keyboard_layout.sh script and replace every occurrence of sholesp2a with sholes, then the script will work for MotoFrenzy too.

Little problem

This idea solved my problem, now i have a qwertz keybord! Very big THX fo that! :) But if I want to write ) (alt+?) it"s writer me a ; and the ; button is the ; buttn, and nowhere is tthe ). What is the problem? I hope you can understand. :) Sorry for my bad english!
