CyanogenMod 6.1.2 for Milestone A853

Status: release of an unofficial CyanogenMod 6 port for Milestone

Announcement: CM6 for Milestone development continues thanks to Michael
watch this XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155454

Please, report bugs and issues here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone

Important: Please, use the new OpenRecovery 1.46 for CM6 installation - the system partition was not being erased properly from the update package install script in older versions. (yes, it's finally fixed, Yantz ;) )
The Androidiani OR has been updated to be based on 1.46 (in version 3.3), so it's recommended too.

Update:
18.03.2011 0.08-11.03.18
- proprietary files update
- various wlan connectivity issues fixed (some N routers, wpa2, 801.x enterprise etc.), as in current CM7

28.01.2011 0.07-11.01.28
- proprietary files update (boot.img=>kernel, modules etc from SHOLS_U2_05.26.0)
- the infamous SMS bugs fixed (the OS version should actually read 2.2.2, sorry, I left 2.2.1 there)
- Greek support added to LatinIME 2.3 (including dictionary)
- ext4 module included (can be used to mount ext2 only - writing to journalled ext3/4 is not working correctly yet)
- new separate BPSW update.zip package (same as in SHOLS_U2_05.26.0/SHLA_U2_05.0C.0)

15.01.2011 0.06-11.01.15
- proprietary files update (boot.img, modules, libaudiopolicy), no sleep after usb/power unplug seems to be finally fixed
- added ro.config.no-action-on-plug property. When set to 1, the screen will not automatically turn on when plugged to usb/power (useful especially for users of solar power adapters). Disabled by default, can be changed in /system/build.prop.
- TI OMX libs compiled from sources again (thanks, Edgard)

28.12.2010 0.05-10.12.27
- battery top charge level fixed, updated WLAN driver, ...

22.12.2010 0.04-10.12.22
- 2.3 keyboard (with all the dictionaries as usual, plus 2.3 framework/ex included), but no prediction for hw keyboard yet
- media_profiles.xml adjustments (safer high camcorder profile h264 bitrate) + small camera fixes (sounds etc.)
- small agps fix (issue 295)
- multitouch.distinct defined (fix Google Maps 5.0 rotation gesture etc.)
- bluetooth discoverabilty timeout configurable (thanks H.Czedik)
- modversion change to easily distinguish current build
- etc.

12.12.2010 0.04-10.12.12
- AAC and AMR Wideband audio encoders are finally working!
- additional video quality camcorder profile added - "middle" (customize it in /etc/media_profiles.xml)
- Camera app - fixed encoder change from UI not being used until camera reinitialization, camcorder shortcut added
- adjusted smartass governor defaults

8.12.2010 0.04-10.12.08b
- ignore light sensor when flashlight is on (better solution based on updated flashlight code), SMS time stamp fix, input method chooser dialog fix, smartass governor included etc.
- cpufreq_stats module included (b), Torch app in sync with all widget's flashlight buttons - fixes possible FC (b)
Note: there is a leftover backup file /etc/init.d/10overclock~, please delete it, thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

3.11.2010: the github repos finally updated, custom building ready: http://android.doshaska.net/cm6build

To do:
- done prepare and release the source for custom building (=> installation via update.zip in the future)
- clean up the mess in init scripts
- done by Skrilax_CZ - 2nd-init, many thanks invent some better init hijack
- done make some non polling usb fix (for now it's using the Dext3r's script - thanks)
- etc.

Additional downloads:
BPSW (same as in SHOLS_U2_05.26.0/SHLA_U2_05.0C.0): http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/downloads/detail?name=upd...
- if you have not flashed the 2.2.1 sbf before, you can use this package to update you baseband processor software
adb_during_boot (for debugging purposes): http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/downloads/detail?name=upd...

Notes:
- the main init scripts are located in /system/etc/rootfs
- clocking options (frequency table, vsel table and governors) can be set in /system/etc/init.d/10overclock
- Adobe Flash can be downloaded and installed directly from Adobe web or from Android Market
- USB tethering: use Solutor's USB Tether app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839492
- if you have installed adb_during_boot and the usb is connected during boot, you will have to disconnect and reconnect the usb cable before you can mount the SD card to a computer. chmod 644 /system/etc/init.d/00adb_during_boot will disable the early adb mode and the mount will be possible immediately.

Installation:
- use OpenRecovery Apply Update menu to install the zip copied to /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
- data wipe/factory reset is highly recommended when you are upgrading from another rom/fw or from 0.01/0.02.
- the included RIL files are for the European frequencies, if you are in Canada, US, Lat Am or Thailand, you will need to replace them to get 3g working
- if you are in France, you should replace ro.product.brand=MOTO_RTEU with ro.product.brand=MOTO_RTFR in /system/build.prop (the ap_gain_france.bin will be used then)

OpenRecovery Mod (with CyanogenMod6 for Milestone specific customizations):
http://code.google.com/p/androidiani-openrecovery/
Non European radio files can be installed from menu in Androidiani OR.

hi all !

thanks a lot for that H U G E piece of software !
i'm getting in love with my encrypted-bootloader sucker again :)

so, i had a coupe of reboots, and i would like to help, but apparently the scripyt posted with the last update is not properly working on my device.

Please, if you are experiencing reboots, download this file: http://github.com/downloads/nadlabak/android/09logcat , put it to /etc/init.d and change its permissions to 755 (execute). After an unwanted reboot, post the /data/system_last.log to the issue tracker.

i downloaded, copied, and modified the script permissions and i have :

localhost init.d # ls -la
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2048 Oct 6 18:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2048 Oct 2 15:49 ..
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 236 Aug 1 2008 00adb_during_boot
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 365 Aug 1 2008 00banner
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 27 Aug 1 2008 01sysctl
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 229 Aug 1 2008 03firstboot
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 105 Aug 1 2008 04modules
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 1593 Aug 1 2008 05mountsd
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 154 Oct 6 17:39 09logcat
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 1111 Aug 1 2008 10overclock
-rwxr-x--- 1 root shell 794 Aug 1 2008 20userinit

but

# cat /data/system_last.log
cat: can't open '/data/system_last.log': No such file or directory

any advice ?

have you tried changing the group to shell?

From a console you should change the file permissions using:
chown root.shell /etc/init.d/09logcat

Give it a try..

i've tried the log trick under 0.02-10.10.02 :(
working properly now

i'll post the report if reboots

Hi,

I'm getting the "E: /CHACHE etc. error".
> I downloaded the OpenRecovery Mod, extracted the folder to a newly formatted FAT32 SDcard.
>> Placed the UPDATE-CM-.....zip in the 'updates' folder.

What else should I do?

Please help.

I have a Milestone.
And I can't get it to boot into OpenRecovery, I always end up in Android System Recovery.

Was too excited. Downloaded the newly uploaded OpenRecovery and everything was fine!

Is GPS really working? I'm trying very hard to get a fix with gps status and i'm not actually getting it. Are you guys experiencing the same issue?
Besides this i'm loving this port, i'll never return to telus.

Grettings from far south america!

Anselmo.

I got a problem right now, I can't put my carrier apn setting for 2g and 3g. The apn setting just fail to save. I try a lot of things such as using APN setting restore app from my previous apn setting before I change to this mod. I also manually inserts the setting but it won't appear. Can anyone help me? Thanks

I've noticed that the camera application does not enter Landscape mode when selected, I still see the camera controls and a grey bar on the left side. Is this a bug?

please get an rss fead working

Stuck @ motorola boot logo... :-'(

Followed the instructions carefully... What could be wrong?

Hi, with this mod no LED Torch app works anymore like Moto Torch... Does anyone know how to fix this?

SimpleLed works for me

Gps now is work?
I remember the previous version can not be used

Yes the Gps is working very well if you delete location file as recommendation above
However when I changed the location, I need to delete the file again then GPS can catch satellite fast (less than two min)

you mean delete >/data/location/location.cfg?
but i can't find /data/location/location.cfg, i use astro file manager to see my >/data/ is empty.

you need root explorer and rooted telephone to acces /data
it is on the market

you need root explorer and rooted telephone to acces /data

slower than stock rom. system eats much more cpu :(

Second day with it, a huge thanks!
yet restarts ~2-3 times a day but this is better than 2.1u1 that silently went off once a week. Will report logs to gcode issues.
Thanks again for your work!

please help me

after i apply the cyanogen .zip in open recovery,i reboot
but after reboot it shows the exclamation mark.

i rebooted again but this time the m logo is stuck.

i reboot again but now it reboots by itself :(
any help please?
thanx

probably you need to wipe your phone, but try just clean dalvik cache first

yes i did wipe(all 3 wipe) the phone before applying the cyanogen.zip..
but still no good:(

When i installed the cm6 rom i got stuck on the motorola logo. But when i flashed a SBF and then installed cm6 it worked. You can download the sbf here: http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone

yes i read somewhere that i had to flash a sbf file.
but what sbf did u u flash?the vulnarable recovery or a full sbf flash of your operator?
ps.i have an unbranded phone with 2.1 update1 i bought from ebay.(it came from hong kong)

also, when u flashed the recovery, did u set up the phone (google, etc) then installed cm6 or u installed it before it boots(i.e into recovery mode)

I flashed the 2.1 UK SHOLS_U2_02.36.0
Then i set up the phone, dont know why, just did it.
Then i had to install a vulnerable recovery from here: http://modmymobile.com/forums/564-motorola-milestone-general/530112-new-...
The vulnerable recovery was so i could open "open recovery" from the update.zip
And after that i installed cm6 with fixes

hey thank you very much for your reply :)
uh, ive got u2 shols 2.31.0 if i flash one which is 2.36.0 , will i brick my phone or will it just flash and keep ok?
thanks.

YEAHHHH I GOT IT WORKING xD
i did like u said and it works xD
really man, withOut peOple like u on the net, lyfs so cOol:)
thanks very much xD

Have absolutly no idea. I just flashed a random one and hoped for the best:) I lost all my data, but I had backed it all up with titanium backup. Actually Im not sure if it matters wich one you flash.

got into open recovery,
did all 3 wipes,
got to Apply update, applied cyanogen update 0.02-10.10.07
rebooted.
when it reboots,it goes directly to the exclamation mark...

what can i dO for it to work??:(
am desperate :s

Just press camera button + volume up and select "Reboot" and you're done!

I think that's a bug with OpenRecovery. Happened to me, too.

Cheers!

i did reboot as you said but still the same problem :(
i rebooted about 20 times and same error:s

Before I raise an enhancement request on the tracker correct me if I am wrong: This ver of CM6 does not have working tun.ko for OpenVPN usage? I cannot find it in /system/lib/modules I had to download it and the use openvpn config from the market to get all working.

Also I see that cifs.ko and nfs.ko are included on the ROM by default. I think it would be worth to mention it on the google code WIKI

Great work nadlabak and co....

Please help on building also for Milestone XT701.
Sholes_cu

Source code >
https://opensource.motorola.com/sf/sfmain/do/viewProject/projects.stcu

Motorola is not planning to upgrade Sholes_cu (Milestone XT701).... we need a builder like you to have Froyo in our phones.
Please in name of all XT701 users, please, help us on also supporting this phone.

if fix gps and reboot problem , i will back to flash this rom..
now?...sorry.

how many minutes did the first boot take for you guys??
because i think am stuck at the m logo again :s!!

.flashed full sbf
.flash vulnarable recovery
.rooted phone
.did all 3 wipes in open recovery
.applied upadate(latest one 10.10.7)
.rebooted
.when reboots,i am directly to the exclamation mark
.rebooted
.stuck at the m logo :(
did i miss anything??

after 3 rebootes , i am stuck at boot loop!!!

getting depressed:(!!!!!

GETTING BACK TO 2.1 :(:(:(

Start from a rtl 2.1 BR with installed vulnerable recovery sbf.
Wiped
Installed cm6
Wiped again
Phone rebooted in recovery
Manual Reboot
Phone rebooted itself 3 times in Motorola logo(before CM logo apears) and freeze.

Take off battery, and turn on again.
Phone rebooted itself 3 times blablablabla

One time i could get the logcat on the third time, this is the last lines before it freezes:

Any fix for this ?

I was the one who post the logcat above, so this is how a fix:

Flashed this SBF: SHOLS_U2_02.36.0_UCASHLSMR2EMEAB1B806D.0R_PDS003_USASHLS00RTGB_P026_A019_HWp2a_1FF
Full Boot
Then flashed this SBF: vulnerable_recovery_only_ramdld90_78
Apply CM6 .zip update
Wipped every option
Reboot

Hi there. I already have that version. Should i wipe data/factory reset as well? Kinda sucky if so, will have to reconfigure my system every time you show up an awesome update!

I just wiped dalvik and cache, all my options/apps remains in this atualization.
